Obama Campaign Rebuts Corsi's "Obama Nation"
Honolulu - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama hit back Thursday with a 40-page rebuttal to the best-selling book "The Obama Nation," arguing the author is a fringe bigot peddling rehashed lies.
Jerome Corsi's anti-Obama book, "The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality," claims the Illinois senator is a dangerous, radical candidate for president.
The Original Swift-Boater Is Back
Here come the goons, right on schedule. The "author," and I use the term loosely, whose vicious lies damaged John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign has crawled back out from under his rock to spew vicious lies about Barack Obama.

Unfit For Publication: Obama Camp Debunks Lies In Right Wing Smear Book
Everyone knew this presidential election was going to be ugly and now
the gloves are off. Unable to run on issues, the Republican attack
machine is in full swing and as always, we are inundated with endless
smears, lies and attacks from a party that is in a steep, painful and
very public decline.
Silent Patriot posted yesterday about "author" Jerome Corsi's appearance on Larry King Live where he was dismantled by Media Matters' Paul Waldman. Now, the Obama campaign has responded to Corsi, debunking the staggering number of lies in his book, Obama Nation. Fight The Smears - Unfit for Publication:
One of the most vile smear peddlers of the 2004 election has found a new target.
Jerome Corsi just published a new book full of rehashed distortions and the same old lies about Barack Obama, and the right-wing noise machine is in full gear promoting it.
In 2004, Corsi helped launch the Swift Boat smear campaign with a book of distortions and lies he wrote about John Kerry.
It's up to you to spread the truth, so here it is. We've posted some of the facts about Corsi and his desperate fabrications on this page, but there's even more in our (PDF)PDF: Unfit for Publication.
A LITTLE RESEARCH DISPROVES EVEN CORSI'S MOST BASIC CLAIMSLIE: "The year 1995 was a banner one for Obama. He had just married Michelle and the couple bought a Hyde Park condo, the first home Obama ever owned."[p 145]

Phil Gramm Attends McCain Campaign Briefing
Ousted John McCain campaign co-chairman Phil Gramm is back with the campaign's top advisers this weekend, as the campaign gathers top supporters for a series of briefings in scenic Aspen, Colo.
The former Texas senator stepped down from his position after he said in an interview last month that the country is in a "mental recession" and that we had become a "nation of whiners."

Wal-Mart Election Scare Tactics Challenged
Labor
groups have filed election complaints against Wal-Mart for reportedly
telling store managers that Democrats' proposed labor law changes would
drive down wages and force layoffs.
Reuters:
At issue is whether Wal-Mart's discussion of the law, which would make it easier for workers to unionize, amounted to an effort to dissuade employees from voting for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Wal-Mart denies that it tried to influence voting.
WakeUpWalmart.com said it filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission in conjunction with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and other groups.
Read moreInflation at 17-Year High
Stagflation: It's always sounded like a dirty word, and is hopelessly tied to retro jokes about the '70s. But with GDP growth already, well, stagnant, the Labor Department announced Thursday that July saw the highest rate of inflation in 17 years, meaning you can now appropriately drop the word into water cooler convo without seeming like a potty-mouth or a retro hipster. On the downside, you are now paying 5.6 percent more for things than you did at this time last year.
From the New York Times:
Consumer prices were 5.6 percent higher last month than they were in July 2007, a brisker pace than economists had expected, the Labor Department said on Thursday.
That was the sharpest annual increase since January 1991, as Americans paid more for clothing, food, transportation and recreational products.
The news was distressing for investors and the stock markets initially fell on the report. The major exchanges recovered, however, and the Dow Jones industrials up more than 80 points in early afternoon trading. Investors returned to buying financial stocks, taking advantage of a sector that has fared poorly in recent sessions. The broader S.&P. 500-stock index was up 0.46 percent. Wal-Mart also reported a better-than-expected rise in quarterly profits, but the discount retail giant also issued a gloomy sales forecast for the rest of the year. In addition, crude oil prices continued to fall, dropping below $113 a barrel.
The overall Consumer Price Index, considered the benchmark gauge of domestic inflation, rose 0.8 percent in July. Economists had forecast a rise of half that rate. In June, prices rose 1.1 percent, the second highest monthly pace in 26 years.

Chicago - Labor groups on Thursday asked federal regulators to look into whether Wal-Mart Stores Inc broke the law during company meetings with store managers where it warned about the consequences of a proposed labor law backed by Democrats.
At issue is whether Wal-Mart's discussion of the law, which would make it easier for workers to unionize, amounted to an effort to dissuade employees from voting for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
LA Times covers McCain's Digg Bury Brigade
David Sarno does a great job of reporting on this:
A close look at campaign-oriented stories on Digg shows that, in the last 30 days, at least 28 stories critical of GOP Sen. John McCain have been mysteriously "buried"
— meaning enough Digg users have voted against a story that the submission may no longer appear on the site's high-traffic front page.
Of course, the fact that he quoted me on the story might just make me a little bit biased...

McCain Plagiarizes Wikipedia in Speech on Russia-Georgia War
I'm not nearly as concerned about the fact that McCain plagiarized from Wikipedia as I am about the fact that he seems to be relying on Wikipedia to formulate his foreign policy vision.
On the bright side, at least he's figured out how to use the Internet.
